La Niña Expected 2nd Half Of 2016, Says PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned the public about the possibility of the coming of La Niña phenomenon to occur in the second half of this year.
According to the weather bureau’s bulletin, the current El Niño continues to fade in the tropical Pacific. It also added that the Philippines will experience its neutral weather condition probably in June or July, according to The Manila Times.
The acting PAGASA Administrator Vicente Malano said that the possibility of developing La Niña will occur during the second half of 2016. He also added that the agency’s La Niña Watch will take effect now because of its development.
According to a report in GMA News, PAGASA describes La Niña “as an event characterized by a persistent cooler than average seen surface temperatures over the tropical Pacific.” Because of this, it causes more rains and typhoons to happen in tropical countries like the Philippines.
PAGASA also looks at the possibility of having seven to twelve tropical cyclones to enter the Philippines Area Responsibility between May to October.
The report added that easterlies will weaken and the southwest monsoon would start blowing in the start of May. The country may experience thunderstorms in the afternoon or early evening.
But, PAGASA pointed out that dry and warm season has not yet ended. In fact, there are still about 37 provinces are expected to experience drought in the final days of May.
Malano added that PAGASA will continue to monitor the dry phenomenon and the developing La Niña.
