China has been known as one nature-friendly country that greatly upholds natural territories and resources. But as decades passed, a lot of factories were seen rising in this Chinese nation.
Everyone gets to enjoy the gadgets that we have most especially if it comes in markets at prices not hurtful to the pockets of the ordinary people. China made it possible.
In one episode, the Foreign Correspondent got the chance to tackle a very essential topic that lies behind the great advancement in technology brought to the world in inexpensive prices because of one country, China.
Mark Corcoran got to share the discoveries of Stephen McDonell behind the miracle in China’s rapid economic development. The video posted in You Tube showed the giant factories that were built in the nation and which excretes extreme smoke in the atmosphere.
The environment of a once-nature-preserved-country were seen with degradation. Waters turned black and the people have no choice but to use them even in watering their vegetables. Toxic rivers became a common view.
What’s even more surprising were the revelation of the patients that were interviewed by Stephen in one hospital. Though not mentioning their names and showcasing their faces in the video, those people revealed a shocking truth behind the gadgets that we get to enjoy.
They were working on a computer factory. They used to work by gluing, measuring and then polishing Apple logos before they felt symptoms such as numbing of hands and finding it hard to walk or run. Those were because of the chemical involved in their work – n-Hexane.

According to one of the women, she suspects that perhaps their company owners knew about the poisonous effect of the chemical to humans but looking for another chemical to be used would impede their production.
In Stephen’s journey in China, he was filmed secretly by one policeman – a mere indication that the authorities consider the matter very sensitive.
According to Stephen, one company in China already stopped the use of such harmful chemicals, n-Hexane. This company which has 20,000 employees provides medical compensation to their workers.
