Learn how you can vote overseas for the national elections.
Filipinos who are working abroad are urged to vote overseas and use their basic political right. The Commission of Elections (Comelec) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) released a guide on how Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) can cast their votes.
According to CNN Philippines, there will be at least 1.3 million registered voters abroad. The DFA appealed to spare at least 20 minutes of their time to participate in this year’s national election.
The Comelec said that there will be two ways OFWs can cast their votes. One is voting personally where one should go to the designated post nearest to him/her. The voter can vote manually or through automated voting system, depending on Philippine foreign service post.
There are Special Board of Election Inspectors and officials that will verify the voters and assist them during the process of voting
The second is through postal manual election which will be hosted by selected countries or cities. The voter will receive the ballot through mail or they will be instructed where to pick up the ballots.
After the voter accomplished the ballot, he/she should seal the envelop and send it to the Philippine embassy and consulates. The ballot or mail should not crumpled and damaged.
The overseas absentee voting will start on April 9 and will end May 9, 2016, the scheduled election day in the Philippines.
