Pacquiao Confirmed Vargas Fight – Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao confirmed that he be facing World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Jessie Vargas in November as comeback fight.
In a report by ABS-CBN, Pacquiao announced on Wednesday, August 10, that he agreed to fight Jessie Vargas on November 5 for the WBC championship belt after meeting with Top Rank founder Bob Arum in Manila.
“Yes, the fight is on. I have agreed to a November 5 fight with reigning WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas,” Pacquiao said as quoted in the report.
“Boxing is my passion. I miss what I’d been doing inside the gym and atop the ring,” he added.
The 37-year-old Filipino boxing hero already announced his retirement after winning a unanimous decision against Timothy Bradley last April and said to be focusing on politics and his family.
Pacquiao, during his time being a congressman, faced criticism for not attending office and was one of the top absentee lawmakers.
In his coming fight, he pointed out that he will be training in the Philippines the whole time for him to attend his legislative work.
“My entire training camp will be held here in the Philippines so I can attend to my legislative work. This is my campaign promise and I’m determined to keep it,” Pacquiao said.
Also, among the reasons why Pacquiao will be going back in boxing is that he said that boxing is the main source of his income and won’t rely on his salary as a public official.
He added that the he has been helping people including his wife’s family, and his own family, and others who as asking for help.
Jessie Vargas has a record of 27 wins, 1 defeat, including 10 knockouts while the former eight-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao has a record of 58 wins, 6 losses, including 38 knockouts.
The fight is scheduled on November 5, 2016 in Las Vegas.
