Currently, many of us are interested in the latest news about Pura Luka Vega. Are you one of them? Recently, she shared her greetings for the Virgin Mary as part of the celebration of her birthday. Today is indeed a special day for Catholics as they commemorate the birthday of the Virgin Mary.
The Virgin Mary was a young maiden chosen by God to be the mother of Jesus through the Holy Spirit. After giving birth to Jesus in Bethlehem, she nurtured Him in the city of Nazareth in Galilee and was present in Jerusalem during His crucifixion, as well as with the apostles after His ascension. Although these details are not extensively recorded in the Bible, Catholics, and Eastern Christians believe that her body was taken up to heaven at the end of her earthly life, known as the Assumption of Mary in Western Christianity and the Dormition of the Mother of God in Eastern Christianity.
Similar to Pura Luka, where she faced criticism from the public, especially from Catholics, after her “Ama Namin Performance,” her recent greeting to Mary seems surprising. In the past, her actions were seen negatively by some and even considered blasphemy against Jesus Christ, who is believed to be the son of the Virgin Mary.
She made this greeting while dressed in a drag queen costume in front of the Hall of Justice Building in Quezon City. In her caption for the post, she wrote, “Let me state and reiterate that Drag is NOT a crime. This experience has highlighted hypocrisy and is an education on hate. This is hate. We are facing these charges in the hopes of upholding the freedom of expression for ALL. The law should not be used to persecute minorities for our unique cultural practices.” It’s important to note that Pura is facing several cases following her performance, and this may include a preliminary hearing related to her “Ama Namin Performance.”
Many continue to criticize Pura for her actions, and some are waiting for her to issue a public apology, which she has not done as of now. We can expect to see the outcome of her visit to the Hall of Justice and the steps she will take to defend herself.
