Easterlies Bring Rains to Eastern Visayas; Cooler Amihan Expected Next Week

The easterlies continue to affect the country, bringing cloudy skies and scattered rain showers in Eastern Visayas, while most parts of the Philippines experience warm and fair weather. The state weather bureau, PAGASA, reported that a surge of the northeast monsoon or “amihan” is expected next week, bringing colder temperatures to Northern Luzon.

Weather Forecast and Impact

For Friday, Eastern Visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the easterlies. Residents in the area are advised to stay alert as moderate to heavy rains may cause flash floods or landslides.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. These localized thunderstorms may bring brief but intense downpours, which could lead to flash floods or landslides in low-lying areas.

Wind and Coastal Water Conditions

  • Eastern sections of the country will experience moderate winds from the east to northeast, with moderate coastal waters ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 meters.
  • The rest of the country will have light to moderate winds from the northeast, with slight to moderate coastal waters ranging from 0.6 to 1.2 meters.

PAGASA has not issued a gale warning, meaning that sea conditions are generally safe for marine activities.

Cold Weather Expected Next Week

According to PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda, a surge of the northeast monsoon is expected to reach Northern Luzon by Monday, bringing cooler temperatures to the region. Howeverwarm and humid conditions persist for now due to the prevailing easterlies.

Satellite images show that cloud clusters are mostly concentrated in Eastern Visayas. At the same time, the rest of the country has clear to partly cloudy skies, indicating warm weather conditions for most Filipinos.

PAGASA reminds the public to stay updated on weather advisories, especially in areas prone to flash floods and landslides. Although no storm is currently expected, localized thunderstorms may still pose risks. Those in coastal areas should also monitor wind conditions, especially as the amihan strengthens in the coming days.
