A 78-year-old woman named Shirley Webb is currently making rounds all over the Internet after showcasing her physical prowess upon lifting weights.
The Septuagenarian weightlifter has garnered the attention not just the aspirants at the Club Fitness in Wood River, Illinois but also thousands of people on the World Wide Web.
Her story which was first posted on image-sharing site, Instragram, has already garnered over 72,000 favorites with more than 18,000 comments.
According to the caption posted on her YouTube video which was shared by Inside Edition, she has been traveling the country as a competitive weightlifter.
Her video lifting 228 pounds iron has gained a whooping thousands of views. “We start out at low weights and by the end I don’t know how much I lifted,” Shirley said. “One lady was 70 and she came in the gym and said ‘You can do it.’ So, out of the blue, it’s all of this,” her husband Richard added.
In a report by ESPN, the 78-year-old grandmother was apparently yielding to old age two years ago. She had a hard time getting up from a seated position without someone to help her and she struggled upon climbing stairs.
But due to her workout, she was able to maintain a physically fit and strong body. In fact, she’s able to lift more than 230 pounds.
Shirley Webb has already set records in weightlifting particularly in Illinois and Missouri with 235 lbs. and 215 lbs. respectively and she is looking forward to snatch a national records this coming June.
