What If Duterte Declares Martial Law, Enrile Shares His Side.
In the speculations that presumed President Rodrigo Duterte will declare martial law once seated, Senator Juan Ponce Enrile has said that he sees no wrong if the presidential front runner will declare Martial Law in his term.
According to Enrile, the people should not fear Martial Law should Duterte declares it pointing out that it was placed in the Constitution to serve a purpose.
After he casted his vote at the Aparri East Central School in Aparri, Cagayan on Monday, the veteran senator said that if someone don’t like Martial Law, then it should be erased in the Constituion.
Enrile has become part of the historical 1986 People Power revolution.
“Whoever is talking about Martial Law, and go against it, is going against the sovereign power of the people who placed it there that is intended to protect the people from any contingency,” he said.
While Duterte’s camp had earlier announced plans for changes in the country’s unitary system of government, the Mayor himself assured during his campaign period that he will not declare Martial Law.
Having been served as Justice and Defense Minister in the regime of Marcos, Enrile added that the elements of statehood should be learned by those who advocate against Martial Law.
Enrile, meanwhile, hit the administration of President Benigno Aquino III as the “most stupid government we ever had” pointing that the country was better off during the Martial Law.
“If there’s anything wrong with Martial Law, why it is that they did not file any case until today? Thirty years have already passed, there’s not a bit of case filed against me for any violation of anybody’s rights under Martial Law,” he added.
Enrile said the next administration will face challenges such as addressing the economy and the armed conflict.
The government claimed that under the Aquino’s administration, the upsurge in the economy of the country is something to celebrate for.
With regards to Enrile’s plunder case, he said that he will continue to fight at the Sandiganyaban while expressing confidence that he will win the case before the anti-graft court.
He added that there is no concrete evidence established against him.
Duterte’s camp has earlier said eyeing for 1:00 am curfew among its program.
