Steve Jobs Didn’t Let His Kids Use iPads
Steve Jobs – There are a lot of concerns when talking about raising a child, especially in these ages and days of Gen-Y. Specifically with the rise of high and advanced technology, so much have changed compared to those who were born in the 90s down.
Questions keep on playing in everyone’s mind, like: Do we really need the latest devices and gadgets? Why is it that most of us allow our technology to consume our children, specifically with gadgets like iPad?
The founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, WOULD NOT! and for good reason too. No doubt technology changed the way we live before. But when it is abused, it becomes an addiction.
One study in 2013 says, 38% of children in the Us under the age of 2 have utilized an iPad or an iPhone. Seriously speaking, babies are becoming familiar with gadgets before they become familiar with forming proper sentences nowadays.
Almost 1/3 of children aged between 8 and 10 have their personal mobile phones. But do you think this is really necessary?
A New York Times reporter Nick Bilton once asked Apple Founder Steve Jobs in an interview, ““So your kids must love the iPad?”.
Steve Jobs responded:
“They haven’t used it. We limit how much technology our kids use at home.”
In Silicon Valley, there is a trend of tech engineers and execs who are protecting their children from exposing in technology. They send their children to non-tech schools, where computers are not used.
There is a remarkable quote highlighted in “The Times” by CEO, of 3D Robotics, a father of 5:
“My kids accuse me and my wife of being fascists and overly concerned about tech, and they say that none of their friends have the same rules… That’s because we have seen the dangers of technology firsthand. I’ve seen it in myself, I don’t want to see that happen to my kids.”
Nowadays, kids tend to hold technological devices at a very early age than holding a pair of toys, hence, their lives devoid of imagination and creativity. Those who were born in the 80s and 90s were the last generation to play outside because we did not have any smartphones and laptops.
The real score: Robbing our children of the ability to take a selfie and play “clash of clans” and “candy crush” all day long of we do not hand them mobile smartphones? Or, robbing them a productive and healthy personal development of we do not hand them smartphones? Actually, Steve really made a wise decision.
According to studies, an overuse of technology can result in high temper, loss of patience and decreased in writing and speaking skills. It is also linked to obesity, Brain tumors, and ADHD.
We had much more fulfilled childhood. So go outside and play with them, surround them with nature and real physical experience. They might hate you at first, but in the end, this, they will realize and be very thankful.
