Medical Community Now Part Of COVID Response Panel

COVID CONTAINMENT – After 7 months of strict lockdown, the medical community is finally part of the government’s panel on its COVID-19 response.

Now, representatives from different medical communities would be involved in a state-led technical panel on containment efforts for the coronavirus. This was due to the government realizing a “whole of nation” approach in handling the COVID-19 epidemic in the country.

According to an article from Manila Bulletin, the panel would submit reports to the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 and President Rodrigo Duterte. Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said the move was all thanks to Duterte heading the demands of the medical community.

“Ang magandang nangyari dahil sa pakikinig ni Pangulo sa damdamin at saloobin ng ating mga health workers ay nagkaroon ng isang working group ang Department of Health at iba’t- ibang medical societies”, said Nograles. He added that because of the President, there are now new mechanisms in which the country could address the health crisis.

As per the article, Nograles said:

Yung enhancement na ginagawa na natin ngayon is ‘yung different medical societies, their representatives are now part of this working group with the DOH so they can also voice out their concerns, and more importantly, their recommendation

Among the issues to be tackled by the new panel would be contact tracing initiatives, early isolation of known patients, and referrals of health facilities. Moreover, the panel is expected to submit its recommendations come Thursday.

However, Nograles emphasized that the President did not “cave in” to the demands of the medical community. Rather, he emphasized that Duterte “listened” to their pleas.
