One of the journalists who worked alongside Mike Enriquez in the industry, Raffy Tima, remembered a moment he will never forget from the year 2013 when he was with Mike Enriquez. Raffy Tima is also known as one of the journalists of GMA7, where he sometimes takes on the role of a news anchor for 24 Oras. He is the husband of Mariz Umali, and Mike became their godfather at their wedding. Raffy also expressed his grief over the passing of the esteemed Mike Enriquez.
In 2013, during the time when the super typhoon Yolanda struck Tacloban, where they were covering the event for a week, they were informed that Mike Enriquez would be arriving at the location. He needed a place to stay. During that time, they were sleeping on the deck of a ship outside, so Mike joyfully joined them. However, the captain invited them to move to accommodations inside the ship where they could sleep comfortably for the remaining week. The accommodation had air conditioning, and they were much happier there.
The next day, Mike woke up Raffy and told him that he was ready to cover the event, always prepared and eager. “Always ready, always eager, and always happy to be out in the field.” This is what truly stuck in Raffy’s mind about his godfather. He said, “That is how I will remember you, Ninong Mike. Always ready, always eager, and always happy to be out on the field even after being in the industry for decades. The void you left will never be filled. Thank you for over a half-century of service to our beloved industry. Say hi to Mom and Dad for me in heaven.”
Mike Enriquez’s contributions to the industry, as well as the numerous challenges he faced, will never be forgotten. His legacy in the field of broadcasting will remain forever.
