Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Features Lea Salonga as Aunt Myrna.
As the season 1 finale of the America’s hit musical comedy show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend kicked in, broadway royalty Lea Salonga came in joy being a guest star playing as Aunt Myrna.
The season 1 finale of the show, titled “Paula Needs to Get Over Josh” featured Aunt Myrna who treated the guests at the wedding of Josh’s sister with a ballad song “One Indescribable Feeling.”
Episode director and showrunner Aline Brosh McKenna shared how they get Salonga into the show.
According to her, Salonga was somebody they had started talking about early on because they are dealing with a Filipino family in the show.
“We knew we wanted to have someone in Josh’s family sing in the finale, and it was just like, to dream the impossible dream of having Lea Salonga-and it almost didn’t work out because of her schedule.” she said with Vanity Fair.
Aline also shared that upon the news, several of them almost wept and they told Vincent Rodrigues who plays Josh Chan in the show, he collapsed to the ground in joy and excitement.
The Crazy Ex-Girlfriend tells the story of a once successful lawyer Rebecca Bunch who left her life in Manhattan to reconnect with her high school flame, Josh Chan in the end of West Covina, California.
Maria Elena Fernandez, meanwhile, described the TV series as the first to depict the Filipino-American family life.
Salonga’s prolific career started when she received numerous awards on her broadway stint making her one of the promising stars in theater world. She also lent her signature to film productions and shows.
Her crystalline voice inspired people especially kids as she sung for Disney films like Mulan and Aladdin.
Salonga also continues to grace TV appearances in the US whenever invited to perform. She will return home soon for her another season in the Voice Kids Ph where she sits as one of the coaches.
