Scrap Collector Overwhelmed With Joy As He Receives Free Face Shield
SCRAP COLLECTOR – A simple scrap collector was seen overwhelmed with joy after receiving a free face shield from the Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety (QC-DPOS).
Recently, the Department of Health made face shields mandatory as the number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines continued to rise. However, due to the supply and demand of face shields, some people couldn’t afford to buy one for themselves.
So, the best thing that people could do is to make their own D.I.Y. face shields from materials available to them. This was the case for a scrap collector from Quezon City who used a water bottle as a face shield.
Sadly, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, millions of Filipinos have lost their source of income. This left scrap collectors and other untraditional job workers struggling to find income.
Luckily, the Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety targeted to distribute 20,000 free face shields to drivers and commuters of the city.
Meanwhile, some residents in Bohol created their own unique face masks using coconut shells. According to an article from Philnews, the Mangyan, identified as Bapa Lido, said that he wore a coconut shell mask after knowing that it is mandatory to wear face masks.
Unfortunately, Lido wasn’t able to afford the traditional medical face mask so he decided to carve one out using a coconut. Lido also tried wearing a cloth mask but he found that he wasn’t used to it.
