Taeyang and Daesung of BIGBANG were officially released from mandatory military service Sunday. Fans of BIGBANG were gathered to celebrate their comeback.
“I still can’t believe that I’ve been discharged. My time [in the military] could be seen as both a short period of time or a long one, depending on how you look at it, but I think it was truly meaningful,” Taeyang said to the press. “I want to thank my fellow soldiers and my superior officers who spent 20 months leading me despite my shortcomings.”
Daesung said that he had learned something after entering the military service. Specifically, he learned a lot about empathizing with others.
“I felt a lot of emotions that I hadn’t experienced during my everyday life, and I think that I learned a lot about empathizing with other people,” Daesung said. “To all of my fellow soldiers and superior officers who, even now, are working hard and toiling away to protect our country—I want to say I love you and keep up the good work!”
When asked about their future plans, Taeyang said that he, together with Daesung, wanted to repay their fans by way of working hard for the group’s comeback.
Both Taeyang and Daesung were obliged to serve in their country’s armed forces for about two years.
