Taylor Swift has called on other big stars to make a better deal with undiscovered songwriters and artists.
Taylor Swift, known as one of the hitmakers in the music industry, signed a deal with Universal Music Group’s Republic Records last 2018.
Taylor said that she believed pop stars need to leverage their power among record companies in order to help undiscovered artists, producers, and writers to have better deals from labels and other streaming services. “I’m one of the only people in the artist realm who can be loud about it,” she said.
“People who are on their fifth, sixth or seventh album, we’re the only ones who can speak out, because new artists and producers and writers need to work,” she added.
She also said that Universal and Republic chiefs were “adopting some of my ideas” as she brought another veiled parting shot to Scott Borchetta of Big Machine, her old label boss who she had slammed previously for selling his firm.
“When someone just looks at you and says ‘Yes, you deserve what you want’, after a decade or more of being told, ‘I’m not sure you deserve what you want’ – there’s a freedom that comes with that,” Taylor said.
