The United Nations gave Wonder Woman a gift on her 75th birthday by naming her as its new Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Woman and Girls.
Wonder Woman celebrated her 75th birthday on Friday, October 21, and the United Nations made it extra special by naming the comic book character as its new Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Woman and Girl.
But about 50 United Nations staffers protested because of the frustration that the spot was given to Wonder Woman who is only a comic book character when it should go to a real woman.
Upon the entrance of visitors, which include Lynda Carter who played Wonder Woman in the 1970s TV series and Gal Gadot who has taken on the role in the forthcoming “Wonder Woman” film, some UN staffers held their fists in the air as a sign of protest.
The Wonder Woman our grandmothers know, Lynda Carter.
Along with them came Girl Scouts in Wonder Woman T-Shirts and UN staffers’ kids with Wonder Women costumes also.
One of the staffers, Cass Durant, held a placard saying, “Real Women Deserve a Real Ambassador” ans said that the protesters “don’t think that a fictitious comic book characters wearing basically what looks like a Playboy-type bunny outfit is really the bright message we need to send to girls or even boys for that matter”.
