Hackers May Received $20k From Nintendo For Debugging 3DS Flaws Prone To Piracy

$20, 000 was offered by Nintendo to the hackers to debug 3DS, to deal with flagship devices, and other flaws prone to piracy.

Since piracy is one of the primary concern of the most company in the fields of music, movie, and especially in gaming. This situation pushes Nintendo to make a piracy prevention step to avoid this situation.

The Japanese gaming tycoon is willing to take the unfamiliar course and urge Nintendo users to use their ability in the field. The company’s announcement came after the reports that their portable video game handsets were included to the primary targets of cyber pirates, who wanted to make a replicate of their product and sell it at a lower price.

GameRants reported that the amount on the reward program for 3DS becomes possible for Nintendo through their partnership with San Francisco, USA-based security firm HackerOne.

The reward that will be given to the hackers varies according to the vulnerable parts which may find by the bounties on the game console. The reward ranges from $100 (P4, 961) up to $20, 000 (P992, 270).

Expert researchers will prioritize on debugging 3DS, according to Nintendo’s official bounty listing and hackers must focus on these following possible cases:

  • Piracy, including game application dumping and copied game application execution such as the well-known “R4” Cartridge Exploit.
  • Cheating, including game application modifications and save data modifications.
  • Dissemination of inappropriate content to children.
  • System and hardware exploit regarding the 3DS and its various models currently on the market.
  • And any exploits regarding Nintendo-published applications for the 3DS.

The reward will be only given to the researchers who can found unique and strange bugs but common bugs are not eligible for the reward. Nintendo launched their latest games last month “Pokemon Sun and Moon,” which they believed triggered the amount of piracy.
