Call center agents at risk of losing their jobs after Philippines separation from US.
Call center agents were said to be at risk after President Duterte announced the nation’s separation to the US, BPO industries were on the brink of losing their jobs.
This news became the center of headlines all over the country. Considering that majority of the business process outsourcing companies investing in the Philippines are owned by US companies.
Call center industry is the one that would be affected if Duterte will cut the ties with the United States.
According to a recent news report of The Summit Express, with almost 1.3 million Filipino BPO industry employees can’t help to get alarmed over the President Duterte’s recent announcement during his four-day state visit to China.
They will be affected if the ties between the US and the Philippines are totally wrecked by President Duterte.
The IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) said in a statement: “We continue to monitor the developments given President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s pronouncement yesterday regarding our military and economic ties with the US.”
But according to a report of ABS-CBN news, Presidential spokesperson, Ernesto Abella showed up to the public and emphasized to the Filipinos that the separation of the Philippines from the US will not affect the BPO industry in the country.
“We want to reassure the industries that the separation is not severance of relationship of economic ties,” Abella told the press.
Furthermore, Presidential Consultant on Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion believes that Duterte made strong statements against the US with the intention to mend the relationship with China.
“He wants us to continue our relationship with America, but not follow what America wants us to do—that’s what he is trying to say,” Concepcion explained.
