Formula One Champion Nico Rosberg announced his retirement five days after earning his first world championship last week.
Formula One champion Nico Rosberg shocked the world after suddenly announcing his retirement from the motor racing world.
The 31 years old Rosberg announced his retirement five days after earning his first world championship, saying he has reached his dream and would not go any father.
In a speaking engagement in Vienna, Rosberg said that he has decided to end his Formula One career, saying that he has already reached his dream to become a Formula One world champion.
“I have achieved this childhood dream and now I am not willing to do that sort of commitment again”, he said.
Rosberg added that he has decided to follow his heart and his heart has told him to stop where he is and “to call it a day”.
The Formula One champion later disclosed that he made the decision on Monday last week, a day after finishing second at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to earn the F1 title.
Meanwhile, on his Facebook account, Rosberg said that he has faced difficulties over the season that took toll on people close to him, including his family.
“It was a whole family effort of sacrifice, putting everything behind our target”, Formula One champion said.
Rosberg and Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton were into a strained relationship, they have become fierce rivals in the karting circuits and have constantly needling each other in the media.
Rosberg and Hamilton dueled for the Formula One championship for the last three years. Rosberg ended up a runner-up to Hamilton in 2014 and 2015 but hung on this year to relieve his rival of the title in the final race.
Hamilton said he is one of the people who are not surprised of Rosberg’s retirement but admitted he would miss the rivalry.
But he assured Mercedes that he would help it find a replacement.
