Jail Warden Revealed: “Mayor Espinosa Begged For His Life”

The jail warden revealed his side on what transpired on early Saturday morning at the Leyte Provincial Jail where Mayor Espinosa and his co-detainee was slain.

Leyte Provincial Jail Warden Homobono Bardillon gave the details on what he described as the final moments of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa and his fellow detainee Raul Yap.

Bardillon’s revelation opens another door for the investigation following the footage of the closed circuit television (CCTV) went missing.

According to Jail Warden Bardillon, the policemen barged into the Leyte Provincial Jail in Baybay City at around 4 a.m. and forced their way, pointing guns on seven jail guards who demanded to see a search warrant the team supposed to serve.

The members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) went straight to the cell where Mayor Espinosa was detained.

According to Bardillo, he heard Mayor Espinosa beg for his life, saying: “Ayaw gyud ko ninyo plantere, sir, wa ko armas nga gitago (Please do not plant evidence sir, I’m not hiding any firearms)”, and gunshots rang out.

Moments later, the local chief executive and his fellow detainee, who was on an adjacent cell, laid dead.
