Try to look at the Dempsey couple’s unique love story which all started by him donating a liver to her, who gave him her heart in return.
Just as unique as all love stories get to start, Christopher Dempsey and Heather Krueger have their own slice of the pie but as unusual as it is – it was a liver in exchange of a heart.
It all started when Krueger had stage four liver cancer and had been suffering for almost two years already when she learned that she only had a 50 percent chance of surviving another two months if she would not resort to a liver transplant.
Her family had to find a donor in the soonest possible time but the challenged was doubled after learning that in Chicago, Illinois, over 119,000 people are on the waiting list for a transplant for the same organ.
A former marine and currently code enforcement officer sparked the light in the dim.
“I heard a co-worker talking about his cousin who needed a liver transplant”, Dempsey said.
“I just thought to myself, I would want someone to help me or my family in that situation”, the 38-year-old added.
He then volunteered to get himself tested if he was matched with the 27-year-old Krueger and luckily, they were a match. No one of them thought that aside from their livers, they could also be a match in hearts.
