A report shows that the global wildlife populations have fallen by 58 percent since 1970.
The populations of wildlife around the world have declined by 58 percent since 1970 and human activity is one of the factors that have caused the declines.
Aside from the human activity, wildlife trade, pollution and climate change are also contributory factors in the decline in wildlife population.
According to the Living Planet assessment, by the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and WWF, if the trend continues, the decline could reach two-thirds among vertebrate by year 2020.
The Living Planet report is released every two years and it aims to provide an assessment of the state of wildlife in the world.
The researchers analysed how the population sizes had changed over time since 1970. In the 2014 report, the wildlife populations in the world have been down by a half over the last four decades.
