The Malacañang Palace remains unruffled by the investigation that the Office of the Ombudsman will conduct on plunder and graft complaints against President Rodrigo Duterte.
The Malacañang Palace, which is the seat of power of the Chief Executive, emphasizes that the President enjoys immunity from suit while in office.
According to Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, while the Palace respects and is well-versed of the provision of the 1987 Constitution mandating the Office of the Ombudsman to act on complaints against the employees and officials of the Philippine government, they maintain the immunity that the President is enjoying while he is incumbent.
The Ombudsman is acting on the plunder and corruption complaints filed by Senator Antonio Trillanes IV against Duterte when he was still mayor of Davao City.
