SONA 2016 was delivered by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
SONA 2016 – The 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, delivered yesterday his first State of the Nation Address at the House of Representatives, July 25, 2016.
In his very first SONA, the President mentioned about his plans and targets on his term and the state of the country that he wants to leave behind after his six years in service.
The eradication of the existence of illegal drugs in the country is the prime focus of the President since the election period. He has been very vocal that he is entirely against it and would do everything to clean the country from illegal drugs.
Pushing further for his prime goal, the President did remind everyone in his first SONA not to do drugs. “We will not stop until the last drug lord, last financier, and last pusher has surrendered or put behind bars or below the ground if that’s their wish,” he said.
Further, the President assured the prioritization of the rehabilitation of drug users.
In terms of legislation, the 16th President vowed to strengthen the counter terrorism program through the amendments of the promulgated laws on terrorism and its financing.
President Duterte also rooted to the very basic social institution’s needs and said that sufficient income in every household is a priority of his administration.
