Senator Antonio Trillanes IV believes that Duterte’s popularity will soon fade once the public realizes the truth.
Senator Trillanes has recently announced to the media that he believes that the popularity of President Rodrigo Duterte will eventually wear off.
Despite all world’s criticism on Duterte’s controversial war against illegal drugs in the country, surveys said that the Philippine president still gained high scores in popularity.
But Senator Trillanes believes that President Duterte was the person who is responsible for the extrajudicial killings in the country.
According to a report of ABS-CBN news, Senator Trillanes said in an interview on ANC Beyond Politics that he believes that the popularity of the Philippine president will soon fade once the people will know the truth about him.
“In the case of the EJKs (extrajudicial killings), the stench is so bad, no matter how you cover it up or spray perfume around it, it will continue to come out and stick. So it’s just a matter of time,” Trillanes said.
“The thing with a very popular president is people would give him always some leeway, the benefit of the doubt but eventually it will wear out. And the truth, once it’s pounded on them and once they realize, then things will change,”he added.
Furthermore, during the interview, the senator revealed that there have been whispers in the senate from the several lawmakers expressing their opposition on how Duterte is running the government.
