An SSS member who has reached 60 years of age may avail a pension or a lump sum amount depending on his or her contribution. Those who have reached 120 contributions may avail an SSS pension.
The members of the Social Security System who have not reached 120 monthly contributions may avail a lump sum amount which is a one-time payment.

Based on the official website of the Social Security System, here is a list of those who are qualified for an SSS Monthly Pension:
1. A member who has reached 120 monthly contributions before his or her retirement:
- reached 60 years old and stopped from working or being self-employed
- still working as self-employed/OFW/household helper but is already 65 years old
- underground mineworkers who are aged 55 years old or 60 years old and whose exact retirement date is not earlier than March 13,1998
- underground or surface mineworkers who are aged 50 years old or 60 years old and whose exact retirement date is not earlier than April 27, 2016
- Racehorse Jockey who reached 55 years old and whose exact retirement date is not earlier than May 24, 2016
According to the Social Security System, a 60-year-old member who has already reached 120 monthly contributions may continue to pay as a voluntary member until he or she reaches 65 years old to avail a higher SSS monthly pension.
