2017 Miss Universe Pageant To Feature Different Philippine Tourist Destinations
As the Philippines is confirmed to be the 2017 Miss Universe Pageant host, the Department of Tourism (DOT) declared that top Philippine tourist destinations will be featured.
In a report by The Standard, the DOT is eyeing on six different tourist destinations to be locations of the pageant. Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon Teo included Davao City, Cagayan De Oro, Boracay, Palawan, Cebu, and ofcourse, Manila.
The six locations are considered to be popular tourist spots in the country. Boracay and Palawan are both known for their beaches, while Cebu is known for their Sinulog Festival.
Davao and Cagayan de Oro are both significant locations as the Davao is the hometown of the President Rodrigo Duterte while the latter is where Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach grew up.
“We have a president who comes from Mindanao and our Miss Universe is from Mindanao, so I think it is the best time for us to do Miss Universe in the Philippines,” Teo said as quoted by Philstar.
Teo added that many people will be searching about the Philippines and in search of more information about the said destinations once beauty pageant fans know that the Philippines will be the one to host the prestigious pageant in 2017.
“We expect tourists to come,” Teo said. “Tataas ‘yung tourists arrival natin [Our tourist arrival rate will increase.],” she added.
Meanwhile, the coronation night will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on January 30, 2017.
The Philippines had already hosted the Miss Universe Pageant first in 1974 and the second was on 1994 after the winning of two Miss Universe titles by Gloria Diaz (1969) and Margarita Moran-Floirendo (1973) respectively.
