Varieties may differ in sizes, colors, and appearance of bananas. How well can you identify its variety by just looking at it? If you’re new to these varieties, you can read and differentiate it below.

Here are some of the varieties of bananas that can be found in the Philippines. Have a look!

  • Lakatan
    Based on its appearance, this variety was described as having a highly-saturated yellow hue on its peel.
  • Latundan
    This variety was described as having a fatter and pointier shape toward its end based on its appearance.
  • Saba
    This variety was said to be the “most important cultivar” among others and has a pale yellow hue on its peel.
  • Señorita
    This variety was smaller than Lakatan based on its appearance.
  • Cavendish
    Based on its appearance, this variety was bigger than the Lakatan and has a lower-saturated yellow hue on its peel.
  • Lagkitan
    This variety has a similar color to Saba, but has a similar shape to Latundan.
  • Bulkan
    Based on its appearance, this variety was similar to Lagkitan but has a vivid yellow hue on its peel.
  • Morado
    This variety was described as having a red hue on its thick peel based on its appearance.
  • Inabaniko
    As the name suggests, this variant may look like an abaniko based on its appearance.
  • Bungulan
    This variety was described as having a green color on its peel based on its appearance.
  • Tindok
    This variety was described as having a long and thin shape and a pointier end based on its appearance. If Saba was said to be the “most important cultivar” banana, the Tindok was said to be the “most popular plantain” in the Philippines.
  • Utungan
    Based on its appearance, this variety has a similar in form as Saba, yet the inside was a mix between Saba and Lakatan.
