16-Year-Old Student Found Dead After Teacher Gives Grade of 64

The tragedy that occurred at Siwalo National High School in Maasin, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old male student known only as “Javier,” has stirred profound sorrow and calls for justice. His mother Maricar, now seeks justice, embroiled in controversy over allegations that her son’s untimely demise was caused by the undue weight of a grade given by his Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) teacher.

With a marked grade of 64, it wasn’t just disappointment that Javier faced; it became the catalyst for his decision to discontinue his education. Through a letter left behind by Javier, he expressed the pain and injustice felt by his mother. Constant criticism from his teacher led him to make the heart-wrenching decision to abandon his aspirations, a choice no parent should ever have to witness.

The documented grades by Maricar testify to the ill-treatment inflicted upon her son. A score of 64 in his initial assessment became a barrier to his graduation. This situation halted his educational journey, causing greater concern for his mother.

According to Maricar’s account, Javier was instructed by his teacher to cook pork as a class project, even though they lacked the budget for the necessary materials. Cooking pork became a source of fear for Javier’s family, not only due to financial constraints but also because it became a reason to deny him a fair grade.

The consequence? The teacher gave Javier a failing grade, ultimately leading to the young student’s demise. The burden of the grade imposed on Javier not only led to his untimely death but also weakened his faith in the education system and hindered the pursuit of education.

The education system must deliver justice to all students, not just those deemed academically superior, but to every single one. Teachers and institutions must uphold the principles of justice, providing opportunities and support to all students, not just a select few. They must continue to inspire and nurture the dreams of young people, rather than causing despair and harm.

  3. This teacher must face the consequences of his student’s demise, the price of pork and the method to cook ,isn’t just the basis to give a 64 failing grade, since the student don’t have the means to buy the supposed project,,more so to asked his parents,to cover such needs.
