5-Year-Old Boy Hero,Edmond John Nipay Honored By Saving His Grandma In Isabela
A 5-year-old boy hero from the province of Isabela was recognized for his bravery upon rescuing his own grandmother from their house on fire.
Edmond John Nipay, the boy from Jones, Isabela, was included in the individuals that are awarded during the 17th Annual Gawad KALASAG: Search for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Humanitarian Assistance on 2014.
The boy received the award, Heroic Act, Individual Category.
The incident happened on July 2014 wherein Nipay was just three years old. Edmond’s parents’ Edgardo and Rose recalled the incident that they left for the market, there was a power outage in the community. Both the then three-year-old Edmond and his 60-year-old grandma, Adoracion was there.
According to a report on Inquirer, there was a sudden surge of electricity after the power was restored. This started the fire that immediately spread.
During that time, Edmond’s grandma told him to just run out and save himself. But, the boy hero gave his best to push the wheelchair of his grandmother to be out for safety.
But, after he successfully pushed her out, Edmond ran back to the house to get the cellphone and eyeglasses of his grandma in order to contact his parents and the firefighters, too.
As the boy was asked, he said that he will not hesitate to risk his life again if such incident would happen again.
“Pag nangyari ulit iyon, gagawin ko pa rin ang ginawa ko para sagipin ang lola ko.”[If this happens again, I will do it once more to save my grandmother],” Edmond said as quoted by the Office of Civil Defense.
