National Posts Aspirants Hopes for Majority out of 54 Million Votes.
As Filipinos head to polling centers, Monday, to make their choices for some 18, 000 national and local elective seats, over 54 million votes are expected and up for grabs following the heated campaign season.
Filled with promises during campaigns and endorsements as well as impactful advertisements, runners are pleading and hoping that they will get the majority of the votes.
The date from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) revealed that there are a total of 54.36 million voters in 2016 which shown an increase in percentage compared to the last national elections.
According to the Comelec, about 20 million of whom are between the ages of 18 to 35 and that they expect a voter turnout of between 75 to 80 percent.
In the earlier surveys, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte led over his rivals. However, Comelec said that changes can happen during the voting day as LP standard bearer Mar Roxas and Independent runner Senator Grace Poe followed next.
Earlier, the president himself Pres. Benigno Aquino III encouraged the other contenders to join forced in favor of Roxas to beat Duterte, however, Poe remained optimistic of their chances of winning the presidential race.
Meanwhile in the Vice Presidential race, Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo is hopeful that the voting day will finally put an end to the close run against Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos who came out statistically tied in the latest surveys.
Including the Presidential seat, there are 18, 083 elective positions this year’s poll both in the local and national elections.
As of posting, President Aquino already voted in Tarlac.
