Some Winning Candidates to Be Disqualified Over Allegedly Vote-Buying on Election
Some of the candidates who win the 2022 election could face disqualification over alleged vote-buying.
Some candidates who win in the recent election would face disqualification after being accused of vote-buying, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec). This is due to election-related offenses including vote-buying, according to Comelec Commissioner George Garcia. Garcia did not, however, name the applicants.
“May mga kumandidato na nanalo, sa ating pagkakaalam, na mayroong kinakaharap na disqualification case dahil sa issue ng vote-buying at sa issue ng election offense,” he told TeleRadyo.
He assured that such candidates can still be removed even if they have already won. “Ngayon po ang tanong: Mahahabol n’yo pa ba ‘yan kahit na sila ay nanalo na? Ay, opo naman. Just the same, tatanggalin at tatanggalin din namin ‘yung kandidato kahit nanalo na,” he added.
Meanwhile, at the three shopping malls in the province of Agusan del Sur, mobile phones are selling like hotcakes after the May 9 elections, based on the report of Inquirer. Residents of Surigao del Sur’s neighboring towns of Tagbina, Barobo, and Lianga went on a shopping spree.
Customers descended on the Gaisano Grand Mall, Gaisano Capital, and Davao Central Warehouse, openly joking about their windfall from the vote-buying binge involving several politicians competing for congressional and provincial positions. In the two days following the polls, a salesman at a mobile phone store in Gaisano Grand reported his business sold at least 180 Vivo and Real Me phones.
He claimed that there were stalls in the mall that offered mobile phones and that sales were brisk till the items were sold out. Sales of mobile phones at Gaisano Capital, Davao Central Warehouse, and the town center also increased. The majority of the popular brands sold for P6,000 to P7,000 per unit.
