Binay family reclaims Makati City As Abby Binay was proclaimed as mayor.
The Official Board of Canvassers has proclaimed daughter of Vice President Jejomar Binay, Abby Binay as the Makati City Mayor. The election was held on Monday May 9, 2016.
According to GMA News, Abby Binay won against the incumbent mayor Kid Peña of the Liberal Party with 153,487 votes as of 5:00 a.m. The latter had 137,803 votes.
Binay’s runningmate Monique Lagdameo was also proclaimed as the City’s Vice Mayor with 166,450. Her rival, Karla Mercado, who is also a member of LP, received 103,630 votes.
Abby Binay and Monique Lagdameo run under the United United Nationalist Alliance party, headed by her father Jejomar Binay.
Abby’s husband Luis Campos was also elected as representative of second district of Makati. He replaced her after reaching the 3-term limit.
UNA’s bet Monsour Del Rosrario was also proclaimed as the representative of City’s first district.
The Binay family has been dominating the mayor’s position for 29 years already. In June 2015, they lost control of the City when Abby’s brother Junjun Binay was dismissed by by the Obudsman for graft charges.
Meanwhile, VP Jejomar Binay has already accepted his loss at the presidential loss. As of Tuesday morning, he placed fourth in the official polls. Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is leading with more than 15 million votes.
He also urged his supporters and Filipino people to accept the result of election.
“I have repeatedly called for respecting institutions and the democratic process. Once the process is completed, we should always respect the outcome,” he said in a press conference.
