Atty. Salvador Panelo, the incoming Malacañang spokesperson issued a statement on Saturday blaming the country’s bias media for the UN Secretary General’s statement against Pres. Duterte. Atty. Panelo said that the “wrong perception” by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon of Pres. Duterte’s supposed endorsement of extrajudicial k!ll!ngs was based on “incorrect news reports.”
According to the veteran lawyer, Atty. Panelo the incoming President of the Republic of the Philippines did not support summary executions after the UN Secretary General assailed him for his “apparent endorsement of extrajudicial k!ll!ngs.” The word “endorsement” was used by some of the country’s bias media but the truth is that, there’s no way Duterte “endorsed” nor “supported” the problems which persists even during the administration of Pres. PNoy.
The incoming presidential spokesman of Pres. Duterte said it was “unfortunate” the UN chief had to issue the strongly worded statement against Mayor Duterte, the first by any world leader since the Davao City Mayor secured a landslide victory on May 9 national and local elections.
Atty. Panelo was quoted as saying “Obviously, the UN secretary general believed the incorrect news reports that gave rise to such wrong perception,” Panelo said. “The president-elect has not endorsed, cannot and will never endorse extrajudicial killings they being contrary to law,” he added.
Pres. Rody Duterte made international headlines on Wednesday when UN Secretary Gen. Ba Ki-Moon issued a statement saying that Duterte’s remarks on summary k!ll!ngs were “of particular concern in the light of ongoing impunity for serious cases of violence against journalists in the Philippines.” The statement of the UN Chief was based on various bias reports from Philippine media as well as Filipino journalists who wrote for international news media outfit.
This is not the first time that Pres. Rody Duterte attracted the attentions of the world because of his previous controversial statements. Some national and local media were also biased on their reporting on Mayor Duterte which were taken “out of context” by some news media organization from the Philippine.
