Duterte and Piñol To Visit Basilan Farmers Affected By “Cocolisap” Infestation
Basilan farmers affected by “cocolisap” infestation will be visited by President Rodrigo Duterte and DA Sec. Emmanuel Piñol to provide livelihood intervention.
The “cocolisap” infestation widely affected the coconut industry which is the main industry of farmers in Basilan Province, announced by Piñol on Sunday (October 09, 2016). On Monday (October 09, 2016), the fish folks, government officials, and farmers will be visited by the president in Lamitan City.
Piñol said that it was a very serious problem where Duterte’s attention was brought to the severity of coconut problem in the province. The infestation affected more than 50 percent of 6 million coconut trees.
The affected farmers will be provided an agricultural support by giving an immediate provisions to have alternative source of income as a part of livelihood intervention of Department of Agriculture (DA).
