Benefits and the risk of President Rodrigo Duterte’s unexpected state visit to China after cutting the ties between Philippines and US.
During the stave visit of the Philippine president in China, Chinese government gives him a warm welcome and red carpet treatment. Earlier, the president announced that he will be more dependent on China rather than the US.
After Duterte releases a series of tirades against the United States and declared that Philippines was cutting the military and economic ties with its longtime ally and former colonial ruler US. The president also dares US to withdraw their financial assistance in the country after the criticism of US, EU, and human rights group against his war on drugs.
The president has his four-day trip in China discussed the economic ties especially in establishing a potentially huge market under the Duterte’s administration. Despite the previous animosity between the two countries regarding the disputed waters, China shows “brotherly love” towards the Philippines in trading accommodations and pledging loans.
