Davao Occidental Reported Its First Coronavirus Case
Davao Occidental on Tuesday reported its first confirmed case of coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 after over two months of being COVID-19 free.
This, as Davao Occidental Governor Claude Bautista on Tuesday said that a 65-year-old female patient was admitted at Southern Philippines Medical Center last May 1 due to hypertension at heart failure and died on Tuesday morning.
Davao Occidental Governor Claude Bautista also said that the said patient had no travel history, adding that the patient possibly got the virus inside the hospital considering that she was already 65 years old.
As per the report, the local government unit (LGU) in Davao Occidental started conducting contact tracing and the barangay, where the female patient lived, will be placed under “barangay lockdown”.
The said announcement came after President Rodrigo Duterte issued Executive Order No. 112 dated May 1, 2020, which approved the extension of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila and other high-risk areas as well as the implementation of the general community quarantine (GCQ) in some parts of the Philippines.
Previously, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said that the implementation of the general community quarantine in other provinces — including Davao Occidental — might have a risk of having exposure to those who were infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19.
As of 4:00 p.m. of May 5, the Department of Health reported 199 new cases of COVID-19, with 93 new recoveries and 14 new coronavirus deaths. This brought the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 9.684, with 1,408 total recoveries and 637 total fatalities.
