Bukidnon continues saving mountains over forest fire.
Mt. Kitanglad is home to several species of floras and faunas, now everything is in danger as forest fire plagues the area.
In the mountain ranges of Bukidnon, volunteers and the locals with the aid of the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (DENR) work hand in hand not for a summer job but to prevent the forest fire from growing.
It was speculated that irresponsible campers started the fire in the mountain that grew affecting more than 800 hectares. And the fire keeps on eating parts of the mountain.
While everyone worked double time and that almost all of the fires were already contained, authorities have not yet declared a “fire out” as security is still heightened.
The Kitanglad Mountain Range remains to be a victim of forest fire.
Forest rangers and volunteers including the Lumad from the Talaandig tribe continue to look after the mountain, they also made a fire line along the risky and steep portion of the mountain to prevent the fire from expanding further.
According to DENR, at least P35 million is needed to complete the mission containing the grass fire and rehabilating the Mt. Kitanglad and Mt. Kalatungan which are then considered as natural parks in Bukidnon.
In the data presented by authorities on Tuesday, 851.5 hectares of Mt. Kitanglad have been affected by the fire including the natural forest and grassland within and around the protected areas.
While also securing the safety of the residents, the local government is also facing the families living at the foot of the Mt. Kitanglad who refuse to leave their areas.
While the life of the province also depends on the vast mountains of Bukidnon, the local government has to put all-out effort to put out the forest fire as soon as possible.
What is happening to the Bukidnon mountains is a history that everyone should learn from. A little of what we do might affect our natural resources in the bigger way.
