Digong to Face Complaint Over Remark.
Complaint against presidential contender Rodrigo Digong Duterte has been filed Wednesday by Women’s rights group following his controversial statement on the r@p3d Australian missionary in 1989.
For the coalition Women Against Duterte led by Ana Marie Nemenzo of WomanHealth Philippines, Jean Enriquez of the World March of Women, Judy Pasimio of Katutubong Lilak and Joshoua Mata of SENTRO, the mayor violated Republic Act of 9710 or the Magna Carta for Women.
According to Enriquez, what the mayor have said after seeing the face of the r*p3 victim “reflects his low regard for women.”
It can be remembered in a viral interview video that Duterte said that he was angry but it should have been him first after seeing the face of the victim Jaqueline Hamill.
The complaint was personally received by CHR Chairman Jose Luis Martin Gaston affirming that the complaint will go through the due process.
After the en banc session of the commissioners, they will issue a notice to Duterte to reply to the complainants.
While Gascon and the complainants said that the complaint is a gender issue, Enriquez clarified that their group is not supporting any particular candidate and that it should not be connected to politics.
The group earlier aired their sentiment over the joke of the presidential runner.
“It is not okay to make jokes about rape victims. You victimize them over and over with every joke you make about their tragedy,” the statement read.
After he was put to hot seat, Duterte have already apologized for his remark.
He clarified that there was no intention of disrespecting the women and those who have been victims of the horrible crime. He added that he is a man of many flaws and contradictions. Meanwhile, his son recently defended him for his joke.
For those who were offended and see’s Duterte’s remark as an insult, they hope that the complaint will give him the lesson especially if ever he will be the next president.
