DILG Chief Año Sends A Message To Critics Regarding Motorcycle Protective Shields
DILG CHIEF MESSAGE TO CRITICS – The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary, Eduardo Año had a message for his critics.
Since its conception and implementation, several groups have voiced out concerns regarding Año’s protective shield requirement for motorcycles. However, despite the concern of Engineering groups, medical experts, and the general public, Año asserted that critics should learn more about motorcycles.
Recently, the DILG chief slammed his critics saying “pag-aralan niyo muna ang isyu” (study the issue [protective shields] first) before commenting. Furthermore, Año emphasized that he shouldn’t be questioned with his knowledge regarding motorcycles because when he was just a junior, he was already using motorcycles for surveillance operations.
According to an article from Top Bikes PH, the DILG Secretary said:
“Yun junior officer ako, gumagamit ako ng motor para sa surveillance operations. Kaya sanay ako mag-motor, sanay ako mag-backride“.
(When I was a junior officer, I used a motorcycle to conduct surveillance operations. I’m used to motorcycles, I’m used to backriding).
Earlier, during the turnover ceremony for 1,000 backriding shields donated by Angkas at Camp Crame, Año told critics that they should wait until they catch COVID-19 before commenting. He added that once a member of their family gets infected, their perspective on the issue would change.
Meanwhile, several riders have already reported accidents that were allegedly caused by protective barriers. However, Año stressed that the accidents were probably caused by faulty material rather than faulty design.
