President Duterte said just recently that he will resign if one of his projects for the region of Mindanao will not happen.
President Rodrigo Duterte stated that he is willing to step down from his position as the Chief Executive of the Philippines if this thing will not happen during his administration.
Duterte was talking about the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL). He is aiming that it will pass next month.
“So let us fast-track ‘yung BBL. Itong BBL, hindi naman sino-solo ang Moro land… magdadala lang ng boses ng Moro para mapakinggan at maayos natin,” Duterte said, based on the article published in Pilipino Star Ngayon.
Currently, the Congress is in recess at it will resume on May 15 and the President hopes BBL will be passed soon.
He said that he had promised before that BBL will be passed on May or before the said month ends.
“Kapag hindi, baka mag-resign ako pagka-presidente. Inyo na lang ‘yan hindi ko talaga kaya. Wala ring silbi eh. Kung bigyan mo lang naman ako ganitong administrasyon, until the end of my term, frankly, I would rather resign. Napapagod na ako to solve the problem,” the Chief Executive stressed out.
The Bangsamoro Basic Law aims to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro. Aside from that, its purpose also includes the peace covenant between the government and the rebel groups.
In addition, Duterte also stated that he will implement land reform in whole Mindanao to provide a source of living to the residence in the region.
“I am willing na ‘pag transition o wala pa, I will declare the whole of Mindanao a land reform area. Lahat ibigay ko, pati ‘yung lupa ng gobyerno. ‘Yung bukid mataniman mo ng rubber, mataniman mo ng palm oil. Ibigay ko,” the President said, based on the article.
PRRD wants that when there will be peace in Mindanao, government-owned lands or those occupied by military forces will be given to the people in the region.
