Comelec Open to Extend Voting Period in Case-to-Case Bases.

Four hours after the precincts were opened for voting, delays were already reported due to the glitches in several vote counting machines (VCMs) on Monday, however, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) earlier explained to extend the voting period in some polling precincts.

Voting Period

The readying of resolutions like the extension of voting period followed after how some VCMs failed to accept ballots.

Commencing early Monday morning at 6 a.m and is initially expected to finish at 5 p.m, Comelec said that for every hour that the voting is delayed, another hour will be added to the voting perion.

Comelec, in the issues and reports from polling precincts with malfunctioning VCMs are already working and checking on the areas with conflicts through compiling the initial list of polling places where there will be an extension of voting period.

In an interview, Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said that they are still gathering information from the precincts to which they received reports of VCM glitches.

Comelec Chairperson Andres Bautista already said earlier that they are open for the extension of voting period provided necessary such as those which were delay due to the glitches in the VCM.

Meanwhile, the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRC) received a report that vote-counting machines (VCM) were found in a hotel in Cubao, Quezon City however checking the veracity of the reports.

Comelec further more encouraged the Filipino voters to practice their right to vote and choose wisely on who to put in the critical posts both in the local and national elections.

There are over 54 million registered votes in this year’s elections.
