Monico Puentevella was first elected as a congressman in 2001, and he was reelected in 2004 and 2007. Additionally, he served as the mayor of Bacolod from 2013 to 2016. He completed his elementary and secondary education at De La Salle Bacolod in 1962 and 1965, respectively. He pursued his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at De La Salle University Manila in 1960. As part of his training, he also studied the Professional Management Development Program at the Asian Institute of Management in 1994. Furthermore, Puentevella served as a Commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission from 1996 to 2001.
