Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, with Supreme Court Associate Justice Jose Mendoza, visited President Duterte in Malacañang. The President meet Cardinal Vidal warmly at the Music Room of Malacañang and kissed his hand.
The President had an issue in Catholic Church before after denouncing the Catholic Church for its alleged “hypocrisy,”. Presumptive Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte maintained that he believes in God but that he does not need religion to show his Christian faith.
Details of the meeting were not immediately announced but the said video was now viral on the social media.
According to a report, House Speaker Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr. also paid Duterte a visit at the Palace, together with his daughter, Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte.
The video showed that the Cardinal Vidal was accompanied by Supreme Court Associate Justice Jose Mendoza for the courtesy call. It illustrated the friendly connection of the Church and the State that despite of what happened, the president still warmly welcomes the Christian Church in the Malacañang.
