Johnson And Johnson Ordered To Pay 37 Million Pounds For A Trial Due To One Complaint
Johnson and Johnson is one of the biggest and oldest company that produces baby powders and soaps is set on a talc-powder trial because of one complaint of a woman – which caused her to develop ovarian cancer.
Johnson and Johnson company is now facing an estimated of 1,200 cases against them. Accusations include: no proper precautions or warning regarding its main ingredient, talc, which has proven to be related to cancers and the like.
Carol Goodrich, J&J spokeswoman, defended the company and said that they have been into 30 years of research and proved the talc’s safety.
The company will never stop in defending the product and prove it’s safety, according to Goodrich.
On the contrary, according to the complainant, Ristesund has been using J&J’s talc powder products particularly, the Baby Powder and Shower to Shower Powder.
She has been using these products for decades now, and this time she was diagnosed to have ovarian cancer, according to her lawyers.
She is to undergo surgeries and one of it is hysterectomy, but her cancer, according to the doctors, is now in remission.
The jury’s final decision should “end the litigation” and oblige J&J in settling their remaining cases, said Jere Beasley, representative of Ristesund.
A $72 million award from the court was made last February. It was given to the v1ctims’s family, a woman who di3d because of ovarian cancer after several years of exposing herself using talc, found in the brand’s feminine hygiene.
The verdict caused renewed appeal and interests in other talc-powder cases. The most affected people were the consumers who have been using it and been loyal to the product ever since.
But, scientists warns the whole public that there is really a danger in using talc.
Lawyers have been alarmed and accused the company of years of failing to warn the public that talc is on of the main reason why ovarian cancer is on the rise.
In defense, J&J will be acting on the development of their products.
