Mariz Umali’s statement after Duterte catcalled her in a press conference.
GMA News reporter and anchor Mariz Umali has aired a statement after President-elect Rodrigo Duterte catcalled her in a press conference in Davao City on Tuesday, May 31, 2016.
In a statement she released via News To Go over an interview with Kara David, she said that she is not expecting an apology from the tough-talking upcoming president.
Here’s the full statement of Mariz Umali according to PEP.ph:
“From their end, walang lumapit o nakipag-usap man lang.”
“I’m not expecting any apology, pero wala man lang nakipag-usap from their end.”
“Kahit ano ang situation, inisip ko na lang na I must understand na baka talagang palabiro lang itong si president-elect Duterte.”
“Based on how I know him or kung ano yung mga alam ko sa mga coverages sa kanya ng mga ibang reporters.”
“So, minentain ko na lang ang composure ko. I tried to understand what the situation was and try to get my answer, which I did.”
“Siya naman, after doing his stunt there, sinagot naman niya ang ating katanungan.”
“Iniintindi natin ‘yan because sa mga coverage natin sa kanya talagang sinasabi niya na ganun talaga siya.”
“Mayroon pa nga siyang sinabi na pabiro noong previous press conference na baka hindi daw perfect si God because He created him that way.”
“Mayroon pa siyang sinabi na kapag daw nagbago siya ay hindi na siya si Rodrigo Duterte.”
“So, again, iniintindi natin.”
“It may have been improper for a president-elect but, of course, we will continue to do our job and we are not expecting any apology from him personally.”
Meanwhile, Raffy Tima, husband of Mariz Umali- whose also a GMA News reporter and anchor took to Facebook where he criticized the upcoming president over catcalling of his wife.
Ignore non-sense compliments from the incoming president, the more we criticize him, the more he is being sensationalized and hence becoming more and more famous although in a negative way…. on the other hand, I admire Madam Mariz Umali, how beautiful she is conveys how great is her intellect together with her heart…. She’s a media lovely icon… I salute you madam mariz umali…
