Mount Mayon Raised To Alert Level 1 Due To Abnormalities Observed

Mount Mayon raised to alert level 1 due to the abnormalities observed around the volcano but no imminent eruption is expected to happen.

On Thursday morning abnormalities on Mount Mayon in Albay province has been observed by Philippine Institute of Volcano and Seismology (Philvolcs). The ground of the volcano is inflated according to Ed Laguerta a resident volcanologist of Philvolcs latest observation for them to raise the volcano on alert level 1.

In the town of Sto. Domingo is the place where the epicenter of 146 earthquakes was recorded from August 3 to 6, 2016, according to Laguerta. Ed reminds the residents not to enter the 6-kilometer permanent danger zone around Mayon even though there’s no imminent eruption was expected.

The permanent danger zone is strictly prohibited for anyone who wants to enter because perennial hazards of rock fall, avalanches, ash puffs and sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruption can occur in the area without warning, according to Philvolcs reminder to the public posted in the bulletin.
