Ed Lingao Apologizes For The ‘Error’ In Reporting On Live TV
Ed Lingao Apologizes – TV5 News anchor Ed Lingao is in hot water after posting an apology for an ‘error’ in reporting, live on TV.
According to his post on Facebook, Lingao narrated that on September 5, he mistakenly read, according to him, that “President Duterte called President Obama “bastos.”
Lingao said that the item he was reading was in error and is not correct. He clarified that President Duterte did not call Obama “bastos” (rude). He explained that Duterte said, during a quick interview in Laos that, “it would be “improper and highly bastos” to bring up the issue of EJKs during the bilateral meet.”
With what happened, the veteran media man did a personal apology since, he said, that he is not authorized to issue any statement.
“I am not authorized to issue any statement, or give any apology on behalf of TV5 where I am an anchor/presenter, so this is a completely personal post on my part. I try to fight for the things I believe in, but I am also ready to apologize for mistakes which I am a part of.”
Lingao expressed further his apology to the President, the public, and to his colleagues as well for the ‘error’ and also hopes that the said mistake won’t distract the current issues being faced by the Philippines.
“As the presenter who read the erroneous breaking story, I apologize to the President, to the public, and to my colleagues for that error. That error is now being looked into. I hope that the error does not distract us from the many other pressing issues that we now face.”
Also, Lingao called on the people who have posting ‘angry messages’ on his wall and said that he understands their anger.
He pointed out that people even though everyone has the right to think and feel but, no one has the right to threaten others. Lingao said that people have been calling him and his colleagues “corrupt presstitutes”, a term made up to describe a media being paid to change the news.
