The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday clarified that the department has no policy on expedited coronavirus disease testing for selected government officials in the Philippines.
In a statement, the Department of Health said that the department assured the public that there’s no policy for VIP treatment, as such, “all specimens are being processed on a first-in, first-out basis.” However, the department said that the courtesy will be accorded to “officials holding positions of national security and public health”.
This, after some politicians reportedly took coronavirus tests despite being asymptomatic while having a limited number of test kits in the Philippines.
The DOH also said that under its screening only those persons under investigation (PUI) with mild symptoms who are elderly, with underlying conditions, are immunocompromised and those admitted PUIs in severe and critical conditions were allowed to get tested for COVID-19 or coronavirus disease.
As of Monday, the Philippines has reported 462 confirmed cases of coronavirus disease or COVID-19, with 33 deaths and 18 recoveries.
