OFW From Japan Dies on Bus En Route to Home in Manjuyod

A heartbreaking incident involving an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) has gone viral on social media, drawing messages of sympathy and concern from netizens across the country.

OFW Dies On Bus On The Way Home

The unnamed OFW, who had just returned home from Japan, tragically passed away while on board a bus traveling from Cebu to Dumaguete. According to the video uploaded by a concerned citizen, the OFW had taken a connecting flight from Japan to Manila, then to Cebu, before boarding a long-distance bus to finally reach his hometown in Manjuyod, Negros Oriental.

In the now-viral video, the uploader recounted how the OFW fell asleep during the trip but sadly never woke up. Some passengers noticed he had vomited earlier during the ride and tried to offer assistance, thinking he was simply feeling unwell due to exhaustion or motion sickness. Unfortunately, it was later discovered that he had passed away quietly in his seat.

Local police responded to the scene after the bus arrived at its stop. Authorities were seen in the video counting the OFW’s money—amounting to approximately ₱17,000—which he was reportedly carrying in cash. Officers also interviewed several passengers to piece together what had happened during the ride. While helpful testimonies were gathered, no foul play has been suspected at this time.

As of now, the identity of the OFW has not been confirmed, and the exact cause of death remains unknown pending further investigation and possible autopsy. It is believed that fatigue, long hours of travel, and possible underlying health conditions may have contributed to the tragedy.

Condolences continue to pour in for the OFW and his grieving family, with many netizens expressing sadness over the fact that he died so close to finally reuniting with his loved ones.

The video has sparked discussions online about the challenges faced by OFWs, especially upon returning home after years of hard work abroad. Many netizens are also calling for greater awareness and medical support for returning workers who endure exhausting journeys just to get back to their families.
